I'm happy that someone on this site gives a shout-out to excellence and the editing process. I wind up editing my stories multiple times before they go online as well.

Some people advise against it becuase it's a good way to keep a story in limbo but I think there's a difference between compulsive editing in the service of fear, and the sort of deliberate editing that makes a piece better. When you're doing the second, each pass moves the story forward, and you know when it's time to finally let it go and publish.
