The long pause and the long road back

Well, I am not sure what happened to me.

It seems like in December I was full of steam and publishing regularly. Then, when January rolled around, I hit a wall. In that time, none of the things I’ve tried to do have materialized, except for a few stories. And even those didn’t quite happen the way that I wanted them to.

The most noteworthy story I published this month was a piece on charisma. I studied charisma and charismatic leadership for five years, first while pursuing my Master’s degree in Social Psychology and later while pursuing a doctorate. I care about it a great deal and thought I could do a short piece on it. What was supposed to start as a short piece, however, wound up growing in scope and complexity until it became another thirteen-minute long piece.

It seems that something in my psyche keeps pushing my writing past the ten minute mark. I’ve decided to embrace it as best as I can; I know that seven minute pieces are considered to be the gold standard on Medium but it seems like I’ll have to work on being able to write those. For now, I’m the guy who writes the long pieces, and I’ve updated my author info to reflect that accordingly.

This is a short update, because as far as writing goes it has been an uneventful month. That doesn’t, however, mean that nothing has happened. I’ve spent the month travelling Mexico and have repeatedly been awed and humbled by the places I’ve visited, and the people here.

For now, my goal is to restore the relationship I had with writing in December, one piece at a time. Blessings and peace to all of you; for a quick index of the stories I wrote this month, please see below.
