Scientists are often puzzled about why it is that we need sleep. I am sure that there is a scientific explanation for it (and that they'll get around to solving it some day), but also, I think there's a certain beauty in knowing that God (or the universe, or dumb luck; pick what suits you) created a world that could be nicely broken into ends and starts every twenty-four hours or so. I'm not sure how I would get by if it was all a singular blur.
