There are two Jordan Petersons. One was the guy who genuinely cared about people's development and well-being. The second is a political ideologue whose politics are defined more by who he is against (mostly, in his words, cultural marxists, which by his slightly convoluted logic refers to any vocal member of the new left, and especially the pugnacious ones) than what he is for. The two are connected, of course (it's all Peterson after all) but they're distinct enough that you can imagine them as two sides of his character.
It seems to me like he's given himself over to being the ideologue. There are probably a few reasons for that. One is that it pays more, I imagine. Another is that he's angry. Whatever happened, I think he's animated by anger and antagonism now to the point where he's breaking his own rules (especially "Be precise in your speech").
I think he may have gone into the public sphere with high minded intentions. But I also think he severely underestimated just how much his audience for self improvement paid attention to him because they liked his underlying political ideology. He was "their" intellectual. Many of them wanted to hear more about living well. But most of them wanted to see Peterson, their intellectual hero, attack their enemies.
That's what made him famous after all.
Also, on that note, it seems pretty evident to me that his pride comment was a dig at Gay Pride Month.
