This reminds me of an article I read a long while back about the decline of adult friendships after college. The basic point was that after college the world is structured such that people are fundamentally isolated from one another - and so it's no surprise that in the middle of all the highways devoid of conversation, and the single-family suburban lots where mingling only occurs over fences, our ability to connect with other people is lost.
We made a world where people move through crowded spaces when they should stop, and stop in lonely spaces when they should move. It's sad. I'm in favor of rewilding. Thank you for the wonderful article.
